The Sony HDR-FX1 HandycamŽ  is the first HDV 1080i camcorder.  It records and plays back high definition video with 1080 interlaced lines of resolution - the highest resolution (1440 pixels x 1080 lines) of any consumer camcorder available.  The Sony HVR-Z1 is the professional version due out in February 2005, SRP approx. $6000.

Both HDV camcorders share the same chassis design and a number of identical features.   However, there are some important differences between the professional version vs. the consumer version.  

HVR-Z1 features (not included with HDR-FX1):

4. Separate recessed audio volume controls
5. Time Code preset
6. Camera switchable between 50 Hz /60 Hz
7. Simultaneous use of LCD display and EVF (Viewfinder)
8. EVF switchable between B&W and colour
9. Hyper Gain, zoom display w/numbers, hours meter, Audio Noise Reduction, audio limiter, action safe zone display.
10. DVCAM tapes
