- OS X?
- Windows 7?
- Linux?
Which OS?
Wrong question. Start with the editing application. Once you've zeroed down on it, see if you need any specialized hardware for I/O and preview. After that, it is much easier to figure out the right computing platform for your specific workflow.
Examples:
- with Final Cut Pro, it has to be Mac and OSX
- Vegas Pro and Edius only work on Windows, usually Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
- Adobe and Avid are compatible with either Mac OSX and Windows (but no Linux); choosing the right platform will depend on the budget, experience, specialized hardware, support and service demands, availability of choices. Call us if you need help with this.
- None of the popular video editing software works on Linux yet although
Cinelerra has made great inroads.
