Matrox Qualifies Medéa’s VideoRaid RTR and VideoRaid RTRX Disk Arrays for use with DigiSuite MAX Products

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CALIF., March 20, 2002 - Medéa Corporation, a leading storage solutions provider to the digital content creation (DCC) and Internet streaming media markets, today announced that its VideoRaid RTR and VideoRaid RTRX disk arrays have been qualified by Matrox for use with the company’s DigiSuite MAX family of realtime editing products.

"The DigiSuite Max platforms are used everyday in demanding post production and broadcast studio environments," said Tony Manolikakis, senior product specialist for DigiSuite. "Our clients require the reliability and protection that the Medea VideoRaid RTR can provide."

Medéa’s VideoRaid RTR and VideoRaid RTRX are designed for DCC applications such as 2D/3D animation, compositing, special effects, game development and non-linear video editing (NLE). The RTR family of disk arrays features a high-performance Ultra160 SCSI interface that enables the desktop models to sustain a data transfer rate of up to 125 MB/second. The dual-channel, rack mountable models sustain over 200 MB/second – more than enough performance to support 10-bit, 1080i HD capture and playback.

"VideoRaid RTR offers Matrox DigiSuite users a high performance and fail safe storage solution that will protect their valuable media if a disk drive failure should occur within the unit", said Roger Mabon, vice president of channel marketing at Medéa. "VideoRaid RTR supports the full functionality of the DigiSuite product line and does so at prices less than unprotected JBOD products."

In addition to offering industry-leading performance, Medéa’s RTR/RTRX disk arrays also provide RAID data protection. In the unlikely event of a disk drive failure, the systems will continue to operate with no loss of data and no degradation in data transfer rate. The ability to operate at full performance with a "downed drive" enables the user to complete work in real-time environments without requiring immediate drive replacement.

Additional features of VideoRaid RTR/RTRX disk arrays include:

  • Capacities up to 960 GB, scalable to multi-terabyte solutions

  • Multi-Stream Technology (MST) for real-time playback of multiple uncompressed video streams

  • Removable drive modules, power supplies and RAID controllers

  • Compatibility with Mac, SGI, Sun and Windows-based DCC workstations
