Canopus Launches MVR-1000 MPEG Encoding and Authoring Solution

San Jose, Calif. (February 15, 2002) – Canopus Corporation, makers of award-winning, digital video editing systems, today announced MVR-1000, a realtime MPEG encoding and authoring solution. MVR-1000 features advanced pre-filtering and variable bit rate encoding capabilities to provide excellent quality MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video even at low bit rates, making it a perfect solution for preparing video for CD, DVD or network transmission.

High-Quality, Low-Bandwidth MPEG-2 Video Compression
MVR-1000 is based on the MN85560 MPEG-2 encoder chip from Panasonic in combination with Canopus’ MPEG audio encoding technology to deliver the high-quality video and audio output required by today’s video professionals. MVR-1000 also features advanced 3D Y/C pre-filtering, which is far superior to standard 2D filtering, to provide enhanced image quality. MVR-1000 supports both Main Profile at Main Level MPEG-2 (MP@ML) and I-frame-only encoding. When using MP@ML, the MVR-1000 delivers the high-quality video and audio MPEG-2 output essential for CD-ROM delivery, DVD authoring and network transmission. MP@ML features true IBP frame format, which provides the highest quality video at the lowest bandwidth. In addition, MVR-1000’s variable bit rate capability (from 1Mbps to 15Mbps) is one of the most effective techniques used to maintain video quality while reducing file size.

With Composite and S-video inputs, MVR-1000 is scalable up to Full-D1 resolution with NTSC and PAL format support. On the audio front, MVR-1000 supports PCM and MPEG Layer I and Layer II formats up to 48khz at 16 bits.

MVR-1000 has an easy-to-understand user interface that provides complete control of the MPEG compression process, along with preview before and during encoding. MVR-1000’s on-screen preview takes the guesswork out of when to start and stop the encoding process and its high-quality on-screen playback lets users check the encoded files instantly

Deliver on DVD or CD
MVR-1000 includes Sonic DVDit! SE to give video professionals an easy way to create and publish interactive content. Once the video is encoded, DVDit! SE makes it easy to build buttons and interactivity, multiplex and format content and record directly to DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, CD-R, or CD-RW drives for playback in consumer set-top DVD players or DVD-equipped PCs.

Pricing and Availability
MVR-1000 will be available late-February 2002 through Canopus authorized dealers and system integrators for a suggested retail price of $699.
